Meeting Minutes

Meeting February 2, 2012 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Meeting Attendance: Shannon Howell;President, Nicole Sutherland; VP, Joe Higgins; Treasurer, and T. Ferguson; Faculty Rep

Meeting called to order at 11 a.m. by Shannon Howell
Discussion with Mrs. Ferguson about Class Reps for Med Surg I and II.
-it was mentioned suggested to the officers to have the faculty pick 6 students with strong leadership abilities and have a class vote on those students for class rep. No decision was made because we were unable to present this idea to MS I or II therefore the idea is on hold until the officers are able to meet with those classes for suggestions.

Next item of business was fundraising.
There will be a TCCSNA bake sale on Feb 14th from 10a to 2p. Sign up sheets are outside of the lab on the tack board. For more fundraising opportunities please contact Joe Higgins at jhiggins006@terra.edu

Next item mentors
This semester we are no longer going to have individual mentors. Historically it has not been proven to be very effective. Therefore, the class officers will serve as mentors to the under classmen. The officers can be reached as follows

Next item Charity
The charity we chose this semester was NAMI. Traditionally the nursing students have NAMI as the spring charity because we participate in the NAMI walk.

Next item Shirts/Sweatshirts
I contacted a printing company for shirts and sweatshirts. The company will be providing me with an order form on or before Feb 15th. Students will have until March 13th (the next meeting) to turn in the forms with the money. You will have several options available to you this semester. Short and long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, crew necks, and sweatpants. Also the option to have a front only print or a front and back print. You will be able to view your options on the order form along with pricing.

Next Item Med Surg II graduation
Med Surg II must apply for graduation with the student records office. The cost is $35 dollars and an additional $35 for each additional degree. You can obtain an application from the student records office or a PDF application from the Terra website. Students are required to apply for graduation one semester prior to graduation. You should apply sometime in April. I will obtain an official date and update you at the next meeting

Final Item Volunteer Opportunity
We have a great opportunity to volunteer at Memorial Hospital for the free mammogram program. I have dates available for February and March. This is an excellent community service opportunity. If you are interested please email Shannon Howell and she can get you more information.
