2 black pens, a good pair of medical scissors, a good pen light, a small calculator, and a small notepad for quick notes is what I carried throughout all of my clinicals You will need a drug book. I used Saunders Nursing Drug Handbook 2008 ISBN# 978-1-4160-4063
Just make sure your Drug handbook is the 2009 version ours is 2008! I also carried little notecards with me that I filled out the night before so I wouldn't forget anything. I would put temp_____ B/P_____ resp________ etc.. then just fill in the blanks as I did my assessment. I would also write my drug information on them when I passed meds.
I did a little research on the 2009 edition of the Saunders Drug Handbook and it will not be released until July 8, 2008. The ISBN is 978-1-4160-5989-9. There is an updated link to the publisher's website.
You'll figure out the supplies you use the most as you go along. I didn't use a clipboard until just this last semester but it really helped me stay organized. It's certainly not a mandatory purchase but it helped me. DON'T forge your watch! 1. watch 2. stethoscope 3. tape measure --especially when you do your Nutrition Care Plan. 4. Pen 5. Scrap paper 6. pen light 7. scissors Whatever books you need to take will be at your discretion. If your care plan is due by the end of that clinical day--you may just be bringing all of them. I also found alcohol pads to be my best friend. As soon as you find out where the clinical site keeps them...grab a few and put them in your pocket. So you can sanitize your stethoscope frequently. Another thing that I could not go with out was antimicrobial hand lotion. Like I said, you'll figure out what is that YOU need to make your day go by better.

A pair of straight nosed hemostats is always a good idea to have on hand.
The ISBN Allie gave was missing the last digit. 9781416040637 is the correct number. It has been linked on the main page under Useful Reference Books.
